FAQs

Where do kids park their bikes?

We have bike racks by the Avon gate where we enter school and more racks by the Cordova gate if needed. 

Do they need to lock their bikes?

No. The schools gates are locked so the bikes are safe. Pretty much no one locks their bikes and we haven't had any problems.

How do they get their bikes after school if they're in a child care program?

After school programs are aware of the bike bus. Kids will be able to retrieve their bikes from the bike racks. There is no riding allowed on campus. Kids must walk their bikes safely to their pick up gate. 

Is there a minimum age or any other requirements to join?

No. The only requirement is that kids wear helmets, even if they are passengers on cargo bikes. 

Can my kids join on a balance bike or a bike with training wheels?

It is generally not advised, especially if you are joining at an earlier stop. Even though we ride at a slow pace, in our experience, it is too difficult for little legs on little balance bikes to keep up for the length of the ride. 

Where can I get one of those super cool Roosevelt Bike Bus vests?

Sometimes we carry extras with us on the ride, but if not, email us!

Bike Rodeo

Roosevelt hosts two Bike Rodeos, one in the fall and one in the spring. 

What is a bike rodeo? It's a fun afternoon to practice bike drills and learn about bike safety, bike repair, and how to participate in the bike bus. There will also be beginner how-to-ride lessons for kids who are new to biking. 

Our goal is to encourage and build confidence in riders of all skill levels in order to join the bike bus. Takes place in the fall and spring.

Grade Level Walk/Ride to School Days

We strongly encourage those who are close enough to walk/ride to school to do so. If you can do it every day, please do. If not, try the following schedule to reduce the traffic around campus:

TK-1st Grade: Mondays

2nd Grade: Tuesdays

3rd Grade: Wednesdays

4th Grade: Thursdays

5th Grade: Fridays
