Programming

Family Engagement Nights

Roosevelt hosts several family engagements nights throughout the school year: Art Adventures, Story Explorers, Math Madness, and Sensational Science. You can find the Planeteers either hosting a booth or activity, or supporting behind the scenes.

Art at Recess collab

Every first Thursday of the month, the Roosevelt Arts Committee hosts Art at Recess. Look foward to sustainability-themed art projects during Earth month in April.

Hands-on sustainability education to teach students the skills and confidence to repair or mend their things (i.e. sewing). Renew before buying new!

Fundraising & Grants

Metropolitan Water District - Community Partnering Program

$3,000 / ongoing

Eligible projects include water-related educational outreach programs like community forums, workshops and water festivals, water-themed curriculum and supplies for grades K-12, after-school programs, exhibits, promotional materials and native plant and California Friendly® garden signage. Applicants who serve our disadvantaged communities – which represent about half of Metropolitan’s service area – are especially encouraged to apply for sponsorships.

AB 285 (2023) – Climate Change Instruction: Requires climate change instruction for grades 1–12, delivered through the existing NGSS Science Framework rather than a standalone course. Content scales by grade, from weather/environmental basics in K–2 to climate modeling in high school. (CDE, Green Ninja)
Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI): A longer-running state initiative establishing Environmental Principles and Concepts and a supporting curriculum districts can adopt to build environmental literacy across subjects. (CalEEI, CDE)
AB 172 (2026) – Farm to School Program: Signed July 2026; makes funding for California's Farm to School Program permanent, supporting school gardens, local food procurement, and food/agricultural literacy in K-12 schools. (Governor's Office, LegiScan)

Green Ribbon Schools (CDE program, not legislation): Recognizes schools/districts for reducing environmental impact, improving health and wellness, and effective sustainability education — a recognition program rather than a mandate. (CDE)
